Matthew, I was looking carefully at your poem, and in the second stanza, you have the line "Went from seed to a spruce sapling"
You established that the tree is an oak, because it grew from an acorn, but the word spruce confused me. I looked it up and spruce can mean two things.

adjective neat in dress and appearance
And since you're using it as an adjective, it works. So anyway, nice use of subtle differences of words in the english language. |

Hi everyone, I have got inspirations from reading Shakespeare’s poetry and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle works and have some poems that I have written. There are many platforms on which I could place my poems but I want some suggestions from you people to help me know the places to present my poems.

The difference is that Papyrus is actually a good font while Comic Sans has been known to induce seizures. Although it is overused, the problem with Comic Sans was never overuse (and, in the case of Comic Sans, one use constituted overuse); the problem was that Comic Sans is unbearably ugly. It is not a good font.
I like Papyrus. I've used it from time to time myself. Wikipedia notes that it is used as the title font for The Crocodile Hunter and on bottles of Arizona iced tea. The only time the use of Papyrus bothers me is when it is used as a general-purpose font for body text. It is great for titles and special elements, but I sa...

| Has anyone else noticed Papyrus being used on everything lately? I think it's becoming the new Comic Sans. I'm guilty of overusing it myself, but it's been my favorite font for years. Why is it suddenly so popular? It couldn't just be because of Serenity. |

I disagree about ending it at Season 3, but I can see your point. The show definitely changed after that, but I liked seeing the characters' lives change as they grew up.
I kind of agree about the comics, though. They've just been getting weirder and weirder. Some things that happen later on are just so absurd that it doesn't feel like Buffy anymore. I'm still reading and enjoying them, but I think the show ended with a perfectly satisfactory ending, and didn't need a continuation.
Angel, on the other hand, definitely deserved to be continued beyond its rushed cliffhanger ending in my opinion, and I think the comics on that end have been handled much more sanely. T...

Whedon just doesn't know when to stop.
Every series must end. At some point, you've got to decide, "Okay, one more sequel will just be ridiculous." For instance, someone really should have stopped them from making Final Destination 3 (and now they're making Final Destination 4!) I don't care how limitless the concept is, a television series can't have unlimited seasons. The best strategy is to "stop while everyone is still asking for more but before they start begging you to stop" or in other words to "stop while you're ahead." C.S. Lewis said he could have kept writin...

Ultimate Nick Fury is a reinterpretation of the classic Marvel character Nick Fury. One of the most notable differences between the two is the fact that Classic Fury is a Caucasian colonel with brown hair, while Ultimate Fury is a bald African-American general, and was in fact specifically tailored after actor Samuel L. Jackson with his permission.

The tenth issue of Batman published in 1942 is just a goldmine of panels that are unintentionally funny today:

To have lived in a simpler time like 1942 when comic book writers thought panels like this were culturally acceptable (not that a teenager living alone with a rich bachelor wasn't weird enough to begin with):

Quote from the independent film The Nines written and directed by John August:
Quoted Text
Ryan Reynolds: Are you saying I'm god? Melissa McCarthy: Technically, no. If God is a 10, a theoretical ultimate, you're more of a 9. RR: What are you? MM: Humans are 7s. Monkeys are 6s. RR: What are the 8s? MM: Koalas. They're telepathic. Plus they control the weather.
I just used the actor's names, because each actor plays more than one character. What "The Nines" are is very much like the Endless in Neil Gaiman's ...

Swing the Sickle is launching a new creative ministry:
Eleven Months
I've already bought the domain elevenmonths.org (currently just redirects to the forum), a teaser site will go up May 11, 2008, and the creative ministry will officially launch January 11, 2009. In the next few weeks, I'll be sharing how you, members of the StS community, can be involved in the Eleven Months leadership team.
The Eleven Months' Vision: Instill in Christians worldwide the importance of making Bible study a part of their daily routine. Regardless of previous unfulfilled commitments, any time of the year is a good time to pick up and read God's Word.
How to Accomplish the Eleven Month's Vision: &...

Recent favorite: Love Song by Sara Bareilles
I had heard this song many times after getting it as a free download from iTunes last summer, & I liked it a lot. I thought that it was about a guy-girl relationship because that's what the lyrics seemed to mean, but then I was made aware that the song was Bareilles' response to her record company when they asked her to write a love song for her album. The song has a completely different meaning when I listen to it with that in mind. The video is very creative in getting across her point, as the girl feels like she's trapped inside the box, having to play songs for people whenever she's to...
